What if I need help?

On every page you will find a 'Help Button', which provides a quick guide specific to that page. Click on the yellow post-it note with 'help' written on it, to reveal a series of '?' buttons around the page which you can hover the mouse over for guidance and instructions.

How do I login?

You can either click on the link sent in your invitation email or just visit www.familyfoodpanel.co.uk and type in your Email Address and Password (your panel number).

How do I get started?

The first time that you login you will be asked to complete a very short registration questionnaire about you and the other members of your household. Once this is completed, you can start straight away by clicking on 'The Diary' and then on the 'Feed Me' button in the breakfast section.

  • Click 'Feed Me'
  • Enter who ate (Remember you can also add a guest to the list by clicking on 'Add Guest')
  • Select the time that you had the meal
  • Select the type of meal
  • Select your preparation time
  • Click 'Next'

Help Features:

What is “In Your Cupboard”?

We have already listed your Diary with all of the food and drink products that you have scanned recently. For example, Heinz Baked Beans or Kellogg's Cornflakes scanned by your household will be available to select from 'In Your Cupboard'.

What is “Product Search”?

You will find the search function at the top of every page you visit. You can search for either:

'Ingredients' (eg. "Mince" or "Tomatoes" or "Herbs")

'Food items' (eg. "Heinz Baked Beans" or "Kellogg's Cornflakes")

'Drinks' (eg. "Coca Cola" or "Tea" or "Tap Water")

You can 'Search all categories' or 'Search in selected category' to find your products more quickly.

Notes: If you can't find the right item in the list then you may need to refine your search (eg. "Kellogg's Crunchy Nut Cornflakes").

What is “Favourite Products”?

Every time you enter a meal, all the products and ingredients that you have used will automatically be saved in 'Your Favourite Products'. You can select from these by clicking on the 'Your Favourite Products' button on the left hand side menu.

How can I see the “Full Product List”?

You can browse the complete list by clicking on the 'Full Product List' button on the left side.

How can I create my own Dish?

You should create your own dish for any dishes or products that are homemade or use many different ingredients (for example when you make a sandwich). You can create a dish as follows:

  • Click on 'create dish'
  • Enter the name of the dish if it is not available on the list
  • Click on 'add dish'

What is a Homemade Dish?

Homemade dishes are those meals you or another household member has mostly prepared themselves from the basic ingredients. For example ‘Shepherd’s Pie’ – peeling, cooking and mashing potatoes and preparing the mince and other ingredients.

What is a Readymade Meal?

Readymade meals are convenience type products that have been bought pre-prepared and just require placing in an oven or microwave. For example readymade Shepherd’s Pie. This also applies to sandwiches etc. bought in a shop and consumed at home.

What is the “We Ate” Section?

On the right side of your Dairy you will find a large grey frame containing the day you have selected and the meal you are entering your food and drink for.

How can I remove ingredients / a dish / a meal?

All the ingredients used in the meals entered will be listed on the right hand side under 'We Ate'. If you want to remove any ingredients click on the ‘X’ Sign beside the entries. Or click on the ‘Cancel Occasion’ to cancel the dish / meal.

How to go back to the previous page?

Do not use the back or forward buttons on your internet browser window, use the diary buttons to move through the questions.

Entering Meat / Fish / Fruit / Vegetables:

Meat, Fish, Fruit and Vegetables are not categorised according to Shop or Brand name. For example you do not need to search for Tesco Mince, you only need to search for Mince.

How to enter items not bought from a Supermarket?

You can enter the items bought from your local butcher/market on any produce that isn't bought from a supermarket by simply adding 'Other' in front of the product you are searching for. For example if you are looking for sausages bought from local butcher then search for 'Other sausages'.

What is a 'Lunch Box'?

Food prepared at home but consumed elsewhere. For example a sandwich prepared at home and consumed at work or school.

Do I need to enter sauces and vinegar?

Yes, we require information about the sauces and vinegar or any other condiments like salt, mustard or pickle that is used to add flavour to food.

Hints & Tips

  • We ask you to enter everything that is consumed within your household each day; you will find it easier to enter the information on a daily basis.
  • You will be able to edit or amend any day in the past or present but cannot enter any meal occasions in the future.
  • Remember - do not use the back or forward buttons on your internet browser window, use the diary buttons to move through the questions.
  • Finally - please remember to submit the Diary by clicking on the "Save and Logout" button. You will need to do this every day!
